Should you rely on a result for a critical deadline?
Use our results as a check, and confirm critical dates against the rule that governs them.
Court filings, contract notices, visa stays, payroll, tax dates and medical timelines each follow their own counting rules. Some leave out the first day, some move a deadline that lands on a weekend or holiday to the next business day, and some count calendar days while others count business days. Before you rely on a result for anything important, check it against the governing rule or ask a qualified professional.
Why can results differ from other sources?
Most differences come from the counting rules rather than the math:
- Whether the end date is counted. Our calculators leave it out by default and show the count with it included.
- Time zones. The calculators use the date on your device, which can differ from the date where a deadline applies.
- Holiday calendars. Only US federal holidays are built in, not state, local, religious or company holidays.
- Historical dates. Every date uses the Gregorian calendar and today's federal holiday rules, even for years before those rules existed.
